Beautiful story!

March 17, 2012

Jimelle Salyers of Spencer, WV

This is a quiet, heartfelt, wonderful story about a man named Mick MacDonald, who lived during the golden age of the railroads. I was afraid that this book would be technical (due to the subject – trains aren’t really my thing), but I shouldn’t have worried. It’s a very human story about passion, loss and time. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read!

Un-Put-Downable!

Author, Gae-Lynn Woods (Texas)

I finished Alle Wells’ LAME EXCUSES and immediately started on RAILROAD MAN, and then finished it in one sitting! Ms. Wells’ writing is so engaging. It captures the range of emotions Mick MacDonald feels as he loves and loses; frets over the future of his beloved steam engine railroad; and then adapts to diesel engines and the life that his choices bring him. She draws out the passions and imperfections of a strong man, one who lives up to his responsibilities but can’t resist the pull of his life as it might have been.Ms. Wells has a talent for creating characters that linger. From Mickey’s stern mother, loving sisters, and the delightful Lewis and Sara, to the love of his life Marianne and his grasping, materialistic wife Flo, these are all people I recognize. Her prose is clean and beautifully descriptive. Joy, despair, triumph, and tragedy – Ms. Wells’ RAILROAD MAN has it all.

A Story That Stays With You..

Author, Regina Puckett, Tennessee

This book stayed with me long after I finished readingthe last page. I made the mistake of reading it right before I went to bed and stayed awake for hours replaying the story in my head. I had such compassion for all of these characters. They were like family members before the story was over with. That is how well this book was crafted. I felt their sorrow and joy and I wouldn’t have missed reading this book for anything.

Great story from start to finish!

March 18, 2012

By Nicole F “niclyf” (Chicago, IL)

This was a really enjoyable read! Following Emily through her journey was both enjoyable, amusing at times and really full of heart. The author did an excellent job of really pulling you into the storytelling of Emily’s life, which allowed me to completely connect with the character and made me feel like I was there watching it all unfold. It was captivating and held my attention, and the characters were well developed and down to earth. While there was some romance involved, it wasn’t the typical corny “cheesy” cookie-cutter type romance novels that fail to hold my attention. This one pulled me in right off the bat and I read it in a day. A great story with fabulous characters!

Finally, a good novel

February 24, 2012

By RosaSharon (America)

I am so happy to give this novel 5 stars, as I have started so many and gave up half way through. I won’t re-tell; you can read what it is all about from the other reviewers that have done a better job than I —- but I will tell you what it isn’t about — No vampires, ghosts, angels, fortune tellers; in short, no paranormal. I stay away from all these. Just my preference. Also, no sex scenes. Whew!!! Sex is alluded to, but leaves you outside the door; thanks. This novel reads as if it were a true story. I will definitely watch for any other books written by this author.

Alle Wells writes a story that readers can step right into. Her characters and dialog are believable, the scenes so rich with detail that you feel the pie crust dough between your fingers, pucker from the taste of rhubarb, and dissolve into the sweet depths of a banana split piled high with whipped cream. You feel Emily’s passion for the café, share her love of the food she prepares, delight with her passion for Jim, and ache over her disbelief at learning that her health is so badly deteriorated.

Ms. Wells’ presentation of the South is genteel and soulful, and while I gobbled LAME EXCUSES quickly, the story’s delivery had a hypnotic quality. Her writing style reminds me of Fannie Flagg – humorous yet sharp and keenly observant.

Lame Excuses is a beautifully written and delivered story that entertains and offers an education for those who hear its message. Our passions may bring us great satisfaction, but we must learn to master them or they may be our downfall.

Very Enjoyable Story!

January 4, 2012

By katlupe (Oxford, NY United States)

I really enjoyed reading this book. The laid back attitude of the southerners brings back memories of my own life growing up in the rural south in the sixties. It was very well written and kept my interest. Matter of fact, I read later into the night because I couldn’t put it down. Her descriptions were excellent, from the food itself to the surroundings.

This author has written a book to be proud of, and I will be looking forward to her next book.
